Our communities and schools are becoming increasingly culturally diverse, and many teachers are finding
their classrooms include an increasing number of non-English speaking students. For these situations, many
teachers are seeking to improve their skills in helping these students overcome cultural and language barriers
and find success in our educational system.
For our students pursuing a Major in Elementary Education, VCSU offers a minor degree program specifically to
help prepare for teaching environments facing the challenges associated with non-English speaking students.
The ESL minor includes a combination of foundation coursework, linguistics, methods, assessment, and field
experience.
